Heaven is for Real Movie Opens Easter Weekend
April 16, 2014By Tiffani Knowles

On the heels of successful Christian films God is Not Dead and Son of God, the newest God-centered Hollywood film to make it to the box office is Heaven is For Real.

Just in time for the Easter weekend, the #1 New York Times best-selling book of the same name, was adapted for the screen and tells the true story of a small-town father who must find the courage and conviction to share his son's extraordinary, near-death experience with the world.

The film stars Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® award winning actor Greg Kinnear as Todd Burpo and co-stars Kelly Reilly as Sonja Burpo, the real-life couple whose son Colton (Connor Corum) claims to have visited Heaven while unconscious.

When Colton Burpo was four years old, he had an emergency surgery, during which he says angels came and took him to heaven. He says he could look down and see himself on the operating table. He says he could also see his parents, who were in two separate rooms at the hospital.

DeVon Franklin, Senior Vice President of Production for the movie’s Columbia TriStar Pictures, is a devout Christian and is “praying for a major turnout for the new film.”

Blockbuster sales at the box office would, according to the Hollywood executive and Seventh-Day Adventist preacher, result in more faith-centered movies on the big screen.

Well-known preacher Bishop TD Jakes is also counted among the film’s producers.
