New Life Apostolic Church in Queens, NY presents a musical from
Dec. 21-23 that puts a spin on Charles Dickens classic novel A Christmas Carol by painting Ebenezer
Scrooge as a backsliding Christian.
Written and directed by drama minister April McCants Baskin,
The Prodigal Scrooge: A Holiday Gospel
Faith Musical follows the story of
Ebenezer Scrooge, an arrogant wealthy casino owner who lives a lavish lifestyle
on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Once a faithful servant of Christ, he has
allowed his hunger for success to consume him.
Similar to the Dickens story, on Christmas Eve, three spirits
or messengers from God visit Scrooge. He soon finds himself revisiting his
abusive childhood and lost love from years past. In the end, will Ebenezer take
heed to this sudden move of God in his life?
This clever fusion of the Dickens story and the Biblical parable of the prodigal son will provide audiences with five chances to be entertained at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, 153-10 Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica, NY.
