It's the kind of single that gets you thinking one thing in order for you to think the exact opposite.

"Don't Lust," an up-tempo hip-hop/pop song with a breathy hook, is actually not the overly-sexualized, parental advisory-labeled tune that saturates the hip-hop/r&b charts today. Although, it may seem to be.

While the group, Minor Prophets , may remind fans of The Black Eyed Peas' hip pop-style, their new single is much more of a cautionary tune for teens and young adults than the main fare of The Peas. Released last month, Don't Lust advocates sexual abstinence until marriage as well as emotional purity.

Minor Prophets, a new guy-girl duo from South Florida, claim their music is melodic infusion as they borrow elements from their Caribbean roots, love for American urban styles and their deep faith. This first single off of their new EP, Right of Entry, which debuts in January, gives listeners a sneak peek at the convictions that guide the group.

The track, with its hard-hitting snares and electronic pulses, moves with an eerie urgency. Almost "Disturbia"-like, listeners are hipped to a new trend that Minor Prophets lets loose in a cool, collected yet pressing style. No sex until the wedding day.

The song's lyrics may seem a little "out of touch" at times because which twentysomething male - Christian or not - would refuse sex with such bravado?

However, Bobby G, the male half of Minor Prophets seems to find it easy to refuse the girl who throws herself at him in the song's narrative. He raps the following: "Sorry, ma. Ain't that type of brotha. Tryna keep my sexy under cover." Interesting.

Despite its idealistic lyrics, I applaud Minor Prophets for putting a spin on the modern-day "sex outside of marriage" play that runs rampant in our culture.

Even the cover art to the single and its accompanying music video are just edgy and slightly sexy enough to grab the attention of young people who have been numbed over by an over-sexed culture of urban music. Yet, the group doesn't fall of the edge in their aim at being relevant.
