Spiritual Drug Lord Dead
December 16, 2010By Tasan Thompson

Drug lord and one of the founding fathers of the gang La Familia, died in a clash with the Mexican Elite Force. Gang members confirmed that Nazario Moreno "The Doctor" Gonzalez died in the shootout last Wednesday with federal police in Michoacan, Mexico.

Gomez Martinez, another leader of the gang, made this statement as an effort to encourage other members after hearing the news about 'The Doctor's' death.

"Don't worry, God is with us," he stated, "and we will continue until we achieve victory," he said.

Along with La Familia members, many citizens of Mexico were saddened by Nazario's absence. To them, he was not a threat, but a savior to the community.

Nazario was known as the spiritual leader in the group and would often use religion to recruit new members of the gang. He brought order by forbidding all members of La Familia to use drugs or drink alcohol. The notorious gang leader was also famous for passing out Bibles and giving food and money to the poor.

Last weekend, people of all ages came together in support of the drug lord. They held signs on the streets, one of them stating, "Nazario will always be remembered in our hearts."

La Familia is one of the newest, smallest and strangest of Mexico's drug cartels. In 2006, Nazario and his gang made headlines for throwing five decapitated heads onto a nightclub dance floor with a message stating, "La Familia does not kill for money, does not kill women, does not kill innocents, the only ones who die are those who must die. Everybody should know: this is divine justice."
