Every little girl grows up dreaming about marrying a prince and living happily ever after. Well, Kate Middleton is no longer dreaming.
Prince William, the elder son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales, and his girlfriend, Kate Middleton, the daughter of a wealthy business man who made his fortune selling kid's party supplies, have announced their engagement!
The Clarence House released the following statement:
"Prince William and Miss Middleton became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya. Prince William has informed the queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton's father. Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force."
The beautiful 18-carat blue sapphire ring given to Kate Middleton by Prince William belonged to his mother, Princess Diana.
"This was my way of making sure that my mother didn't miss out on today," William said as the couple posed for photographers inside St. James's Palace.
The couple met in 2001 at St. Andrews University in Scotland where they were both studying art history. They have been dating for 8 years. When a reporter during the engagement photo call asked Prince William why it took him so long to propose he said that now just felt like "the right time."
Luckily, for the rest of the girls still dreaming, his younger brother - Prince Harry - is still single.
