Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame
November 6, 2010By Daisy Patino

If you attend the University of South Carolina at Columbia you are in luck! Professor Mathieu Deflem is channeling his obsession for Lady Gaga into a class. No, we are not kidding.

Professor Deflem, 48, a proclaimed "little monster" (what Gaga calls her fans) will be teaching a course on the music icon in spring of 2011.He owns more than 300 of her records, runs a website (gagafrontrow.net) devoted to the pop diva and has traveled the world to attend more than 28 of her shows.

According to the course description ,the course introduces students to a sociological analysis of selected social issues related to the work of Lady Gaga. Within the framework, the sociology of popular culture and music, the course specifically focuses on socially relevant elements in the rise of Lady Gaga's popularity to her current status as a burgeoning pop music icon.

We are sure the 48-year-old will have plenty of material to draw from his personal experience, due to the fact that he has met Gaga five times. He is even trying to get Lady Gaga herself to visit the class.
