R&B Star Mario Assaults Mother

International R&B artist Mario Barrett was charged with second-degree assault against his mother, Shawntia Hardaway, after he was arrested last Friday. He was eventually released on bail posted at around $50,000.

In a recent police report, Hardaway had phoned 911 emergency on Friday, accusing the R&B artist of "yelling at her and [used] his hands and forearms and pushed her in the chest and shoulder area causing minor pain and discomfort."

When police arrived at the scene, they found a severely damaged china cabinet, broken mirror, a busted door and a shards of glass lying on the floor of the luxury apartment they share.

Though the police cannot offer full disclosure, it is assumed that Mario was infuriated about his mother's obvious addiction to heroin. Mario's lawyer, Hassan Murphy, described it as "an unfortunate incident between a loving son and a mother who continues to struggle with a devastating addiction."

"Anyone who has waged the battle to save loved ones from the forces of drugs knows the irrational behavior that almost always accompanies their actions," said Murphy.

Barrett appeared in the 2007 MTV documentary "I Won't Love You to Death," which chronicled an intervention he staged for his mother.

This is a terribly unfortunate situation...

I wont judge either of them... But I'll definitely keep that family lifted in prayer! =/
