Dolphins Coach Thinks Player's Mom's a Prostitute
April 28, 2010
Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland asked former Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant if the criminal history of his mother included prostitution during a visit to the Dolphins in March, prior to the NFL draft.
Yahoo! Sports, which was first to report the story, revealed last Thursday that during one of his pre-draft visits Bryant - who has been selected as a Dallas Cowboys first-round draft pick - was asked by a high-level executive of one NFL franchise -- during an extensive conversation about Bryant's past -- whether his mother, Angela, was a prostitute.
"My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player that I'm considering drafting. Sometimes that leads to asking in-depth questions," Ireland said Tuesday in a statement released by the Dolphins. "Having said that, I talked to Dez Bryant and told him I used poor judgment in one of the questions I asked him. I certainly meant no disrespect and apologized to him."
The background of Bryant and his mother was given widespread media coverage before the draft. Bryant's mother, Angela, had him when she was 15 and conceived his younger sister and brother within the next three years. She reportedly sold drugs, and she served a prison term during Dez's childhood; at various times he lived with relatives and family friends. Dez and Angela are very close, however.
