KFC's New Bunless Sandwich
April 9, 2010
Since KFC released its Oprah-backed Kentucky grilled chicken last year, most believed the fast food chain was destined for the healthy path. Well, we thought wrong. KFC has created yet another new menu item. This time it counters the health kick people thought they were on.
Good ole sandwich buns won't be found on the chain's new Double Down. Instead, you'll find two slabs of fried chicken holding together two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel's Sauce.
Still, you can opt for grilled chicken to replace your buns instead of the original recipe.
As reported by the Huffington Post last August, the sandwich was tested in two initial markets - Rhode Island and Nebraska. Now, they're releasing the innovative sandwich nationwide starting on April 12.
The grilled version has "only" 460 calories and 23 grams of fat, while the original recipe version has 540 calories and 32 grams of fat.
