Bristol Palin, the 19-year-old-daughter of Sarah Palin and unwed mother of 4-month-old Tripp, has been attacked quite heavily for her caprice on the 'abstinence only' issue. Despite her previous remarks on Fox News that dubbed abstinence only education as "not realistic at all," on May 6 she debuted as an Abstinence Ambassador for the Candies Foundation.

She made the rounds of the morning shows, appeared at a town hall meeting for National Teen Pregnancy Awareness Day and declared herself committed to discouraging behavior that would leave other girls in the same predicament she finds herself in. "Regardless of what I did personally," she told Chris Cuomo on Good Morning America, "abstinence is the only ... 100% foolproof way you can prevent pregnancy."

Heroes star, Hayden Panatierre, was also present at the town hall meeting.

"It's a topic that's not talked about enough," Hayden said. "This is just a human thing. It's natural, it's what everyone does, but most people don't realize how serious things are until it directly impacts them and their lives."

Hayden stopped short of explicitly promoting abstinence; however, she said she believes teenagers need to be more responsible when sexually active.

Hayden may have wanted to avoid taking a position which would cause the public to even more heavily scrutinize her romantic relationships.

So perhaps, instead of taking a firm stance and then reneging like a Britney Spears and now a Bristol Palin, she's playing it "safe"!
