me&now: Played Out Bohemians
July 15, 2006 • By Anthony Vazquez
There is no revolution. There is
no movement. There is no need to change your consciousness or to save the
planet. Now it’s just fashion. To be bohemian once was to stand for something.
The earthy, natural clothes worn were a statement of who you were and what you
believed in.
However, the times have inexplicably changed and though the fashion is as popular as ever. The values are no longer the same. It has become marketed and mass produced for our consumption. Now the revolution is being televised, and packaged and sold for everyone to take hold. The values of the most righteous have become a commodity. And, now it’s cool to say you’re bohemian without really knowing what it means.
